Proper care and cleaning is extremely important to maintain wooden furniture in the long run. Since we cannot stop the dust and stains from accumulating over a period of months, let’s learn how to clean and maintain wooden furniture with ease!
Things will be simpler if you know the finish! Unsealed wood is best wiped with a mild soapy water solution. Furniture’s with varnish can be dusted gently. Apply diluted soap solution only on stubborn stains. Finish with a spray polish.
In case of wood with wax, look for a readymade cleansing agent. Veneers and stained wood are best cleaned with a soft, dry cloth. In case the veneer includes a protective covering, wash with a cloth dipped in a mild soapy solution. Dry immediately.
Many stores have cleansing agents meant for a particular wood finish. Follow the instructions given.
You can also remove dirt without the use of chemicals.
Wipe the wooden furniture with paper cloths. Rub off grime gently. Once done, take a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment. Use on unreachable corners. Take a teaspoon of lemon juice and mix it with two teaspoon of olive oil. Moisten a soft cloth in this solution. Do not allow the liquid to drip. Start wiping the wooden furniture very gently, in the direction of wood grain. In case stubborn stains do not budge, use a soft toothbrush moistened with the same solution. Wipe dry with a soft cloth. Alternatively, you can also mix a mild liquid detergent with water.
In case of detachable glass combined with wood, do not allow any moisture to settle between the two surfaces. Allow wood to dry and then place the glass.
